Each of us searches for our beginnings or the reasons for life. For those of us who have discovered the Lord Jesus, we have our answer to that question. God created us.
In our search for our spiritual selves, we stir up as many questions as answers. Though we know it is God who began all things and we know in our hearts God loves us, we lose sight of Him through the course of life. Sometimes, especially in times of hardship, we wonder if God really cares or even really knows us. We begin to doubt such a personal relationship exists.

It was three days before Christmas, and the whole family gathered at grandma’s house on the farm.
One of the first things, we kids did, was dive for the Christmas tree, to see if we had packages. One package, in particular, attracted my attention.
The previous Christmas, my grandpa asked me what I wanted. That was the first year, such big candy canes came out on the market. I was so fascinated with them. I wanted one, so badly but I guess I put my order in, too late, as it was only two days before the great event. There was no candy cane, that year.
This package was just the right size and shape, to be one of those huge candy canes.
I knew, for sure, grandpa had remembered. I knew, for sure, this was one of those huge candy canes. I also knew for sure, that my little brother would break it.

 He comes in the night.
He has come to me in the night. He has come to me when I cry. At times, He has even come to me just to share in the joy of a sunset.
I have felt His warm blanket of love. I have even felt, with physical senses, His passing by. I have even felt Him brush the back of my neck, when I least expected.

I have walked in that dark cloud where it seems all your life is just heaviness. Strife, struggle, confusion and unrest crams the mind of so many, in this world.
I know what it is to worry and fear from sun up to sun down and then all through the night. I know what it is to suffer in pain and not have the means to see a doctor, not have the time to rest. I know what it is to feel like nobody cares, that you are all alone in this world. I know what it is that causes you to feel unworthy to look the cashier, at the grocery store, squarely in the eyes.

Standing barefoot on the dew covered grass, still wearing her knee length, pale blue nightgown, she stood staring out across the garden.
Thoughts flooded her mind and then stopped dead as she realized that for the first time in months, she could hear the birds. She froze where she stood suddenly aware of the crisp morning air, the vivid green of the trees, the cool grass under her feet.
A long moment passed, as she just absorbed every sensation her body was capable of.
The thoughts having quieted now gave room for memory. "What is it?" she thought. "What's missing?"

In a situation and feel trapped with no power to save yourself?
First, let me tell you, you have more strength than you think. I might also add, the trees have never been greener, than they are the day after you found your freedom. |

Do you fear it? Have you lost a loved one? Find yourself blaming God and then feeling ashamed? Dealing with such intense feelings, you think you will never get over? Wishing for just one more day? Sorry for things you never said?
Would you like someone to throw you a rope? I'd like to share something with you.

How can anyone know what God is supposed to be to them, if they've never known what a true father is? Think about it-a child brought up with an abusive father would learn to fear God.
A child brought up by a neglectful father would never learn to believe their heavenly Father would ever take time for them. A child brought up by a true father would learn to rely on the Lord, trusting He keeps His promises.
I suppose that what this means is, we teach our children about God by being the example. What a tremendous job. What a wonderous responsibility. |
